Bryan Duncan
For 25 years, Bryan Duncan has spread the message of the gospel in his songs, concerts, and 17 albums–released as a solo artist and as a member of Sweet Comfort Band. Duncan’s music has become a staple in contemporary Christian radio and has earned him a long list of awards from the industry. He was nominated as male vocalist of the year with the ‘94 and ‘95 Dove Awards and named Christian Research Report, male vocalist of the year in 1993. Bryan was born in Ogden, Utah, on March 16, 1953. While in college in 1973, he was one of the founding members of the Sweet Comfort, which featured drummer Rick Thomson, bassist Kevin Thomson, and Duncan on keyboards and vocals. The group quickly developed a local following in Southern California and, accumulating 12 years of working together, they climbed to the top of the Christian music charts. A writer called Duncan’s music “infectious, groove-oriented, blue-eyed soul delivered with passion, emotion and precision.”
I remember seeing Bryan at my first Radio Station gig which just happened to be thee first F.M. Christian Rock stations in the U.S. (according to the F.C.C. database). The call letters were KYMS 106.3 on the FM dial and the music artists were in and out of there like business as usual. Well, as a new christian I saw Bryan walking down those halls for the first time. (Actually, I was on the air and I couldn't leave the studio at the time but all I could see ws his head bobbing up and down as he walked down the hall. You know, because he is short? That was a short joke...nevermind)
Anyhow, needless to say that the first time Bryan came to the CCM-RADIO microphones I was excited to see him there at KWVE-FM in Costa Mesa, Ca where we were recording the CCM-RADIO program from back in 2004. He rode his Harley to the radio station and people thought they were seeing a small biker gang pulling up. It was great. Wearing a Levi jacket, red bandanna and leather boots, he looked ready to rumble.
Bryan has always seemed to take his life experiences and squeeze them through his spiritual "filter of life" and what comes out is pretty incredible music with words that inspire and share lessons in life that, in spite of just a little tinge of sarcasm, reminds you that God is stil faithful and anything worth keeping is worth doing right and investing the time it takes to do that. Like relationships, to be specific.
His high and wide vocal range and musical rhythm puts Bryan in the perfect place to include jazz, pop, rock, ballads and even a current trend, rap music, in his collection of life experiences for anyone to enjoy as entertainment with a lesson attached.
